Because of my hyperthyroidism, I deal with hormonal imbalance and one of the side effects of my medication is recurring dandruff.
The hot weather also makes my scalp even more irritated and flaky. When I spoke to my dermatologist, she suggested a simple but effective routine that has helped calm my scalp and manage dandruff much better. Here’s the routine I now follow!
1. Anti-Dandruff Shampoo (2–3 Times a Week)
I use an anti-dandruff shampoo a few times a week to control itching and flaking. I prefer Selsun Blue because it has a stronger formula designed for irritated scalps. When using it, I gently massage the shampoo onto my scalp and leave it on for about 2–3 minutes before rinsing to allow the ingredients to work effectively.
2. Deep-Cleansing Shampoo for Regular Washes
On non-treatment days, I switch to a shampoo that focuses on deeply cleansing the scalp. I apply it only on the roots to remove sweat, oil, and buildup without drying out the rest of my hair. This helps maintain scalp hygiene while preventing irritation.
3. Nourishing Conditioner on the Ends Only
Everyday conditioning is important for keeping my hair soft and manageable. I choose a conditioner that nourishes and detoxifies the hair, applying it only to the ends to avoid scalp buildup. This keeps my hair moisturized without worsening dandruff.
By following this simple routine—anti-dandruff shampoo, deep-cleansing shampoo, and targeted conditioning—I’ve noticed a big improvement in my scalp health. Staying consistent truly makes a difference, and this method has helped me stay mostly dandruff-free even in hot weather.
