Recently, family camping has become increasingly popular as an outdoor activity, with more and more newcomers joining the camping ranks. Many camping novices often ask:
With so many types of camping equipment, what should we buy?

1. Tent

Undoubtedly, it is the most essential camping equipment! Choosing the most suitable tent can ensure a comfortable experience in the wilderness. Numerous tent brands and styles are on the market, and factors such as type, size, and fabric selection are crucial. Do your homework before making a purchase!

2. Awning/Canopy

During camping, a separate space is usually set up for cooking, eating, and socializing. In winter, combining a sleeping tent with a living tent is common. However, in hot summer weather, a canopy can provide better ventilation, so many campers choose to use a sleeping tent with a canopy.
Note that most canopies do not come with poles, so you'll need to purchase them separately. Some large tents are also designed with separate rooms and a living area, which is also an excellent choice for camping beginners!

3. Tent Pegs

Most camping tents come with bare pegs, but they may not be sufficient for a sturdy setup. It's recommended to purchase higher-quality tent pegs to ensure stability. You can also use extra pegs for the reserved guy ropes to make the tent more secure.

4. Sleeping Bag/Blanket

Sleeping bags come in natural down, synthetic fiber, and fleece varieties. Generally, natural down sleeping bags are recommended for their warmth, lightweight, and compactness. If camping in lower-altitude areas with higher temperatures, a thin blanket can be used instead of a sleeping bag.

5. Camping Pillow

Outdoor pillows are typically compact for easy storage. Common types include inflatable, foam, or memory foam pillows that can be rolled up.

6. Camping Mattress/Cot

A camping mattress is essential for a comfortable sleep outdoors! In addition to insulating from the cold and damp ground, choosing a good-quality mattress can significantly improve comfort during sleep.

7. Camp Light/Lantern/String Lights

Lighting is crucial when camping at night. Choosing the right camping lights involves brightness, convenience, and versatility.
In this era of camping aesthetics, string lights are a popular choice for creating an atmosphere while providing sufficient illumination. Additionally, lanterns serve as guardians for safety at the campsite, preventing tripping over guy ropes at night.
Safety is the primary consideration when selecting a campsite—choose a site far from any dangers. Secondly, prioritize comfort for sleeping and convenience for activities such as dining, entertainment, washing, and hygiene. Thirdly, choose a campsite that minimizes environmental impact according to Leave No Trace (LNT) principles, considering factors such as ground durability and impact on campsite water sources.
Camping is complex, and no single equipment or campsite is universally perfect. It requires judgment and selection based on objective conditions and personal needs.
