Greetings, Readers! A good toner can be such a quiet part of a routine, but I notice the difference when I skip it. Lately, I’ve been more interested in essence toners that feel comforting and hydrating rather than making my routine feel like a chemistry experiment.
Two that caught my attention are EltaMD and The Originote, and they give me very different vibes.

1. EltaMD Skin Recovery Essence Toner — $44

This one definitely sits on the “treat my skin nicely” side of my wishlist. EltaMD describes it as a gentle essence toner designed to soothe and hydrate, with its AAComplex amino acid blend as one of the key ingredients. It’s also fragrance-free, and made for sensitive and acne-prone skin. I’d reach for this on those days when my routine needs to feel simple and calming. The watery essence texture sounds especially nice before serum and moisturizer, without adding another heavy layer.

2. The Originote Ceraluronic Essence Toner — around $2–$5

What makes me curious about it is the Ceraluronic concept, combining ceramide and hyaluronic-acid-focused hydration in an essence toner format. I’d pick this when I want something affordable that can easily become a regular step in my routine. The price is honestly the biggest temptation. I could add it to my shelf without feeling like I just made a huge skincare investment.
For a more premium, calming routine, I’d lean toward EltaMD. When I want something affordable and easy to keep using regularly, The Originote wins for me. Sometimes skincare really does come down to one question: do I want the little luxury, or do I want the product I won’t hesitate to repurchase?
